======================
TLXMERGE v1.0
Wyvern Enterprises
======================
PURPOSE:
========
To merge existing Telix phone directories into one Telix phone directory.
LEGAL JUNK:
===========
This program is copyright (C) 1993 by Wyvern Enterprises. Do whatever you
wish with it, except sell it for profit. Pass it on, use it, forget all
about it - the choice is yours. The only caveat being: Use it at your own
risk. Wyvern Enterprises will not be held responsible for scrambled phone
files or loss of data through the use of this program.
-- Here endeth the legal junk. --
RATIONALLE FOR THIS PROGRAM:
============================
This program was created to automate the inclusion of other phone
directories into my current Telix phone directory. It is not an elegant
solution, nor is it a complete solution. It doesn't sort the entries, and
it includes empty entries as well. All it does is take two Telix phone
directories and appends the second one to the first, updating the fields
in the header and making sure that the entries are in Telix v3.x format.
The information on the Telix format is included with all releases of
Telix before 3.20, but I am not sure about that version, not having
tried it out yet.
USAGE:
======
The easiest way to use TLXMERGE is to just type:
TLXMERGE <CR>
This will present you with a prompt for a file name, which you answer
with the name of the file you wish to have the data merged into. Then
you will be presented with a second prompt, which you answer with the
name of the file you want merged into the first one.
The real syntax is:
TLXMERGE [file1.ext] [file2.ext] <CR>
If a single file name is supplied, it is taken as the master file and
you will be prompted for a second file name. If you supply both
filenames, the program will run with the first as the master, and the
second as the data to be merged.
Basic errors are reported, and some statistics are generated as the
program runs to let you know what it is up to.
BUGS:
=====
None that I know of, as it merged all my files perfectly. I am sure that
someone out there will find one, so I would appreciate hearing from you
if you do.
FUTURE PLANS:
=============
1) Add sorting and blank record removal to the program
2) Add capability to edit the records directly, basically the same idea
as the phone file editor that is built into Telix.
I am in no hurry to add these, but the first one will be rather easy to
add, so there may be a v1.1 out in the next couple of months. This
depends on my free time. so if anyone really wants me to add these
capabilities fast, a small contribution of no more than $5.00 would be
appreciated. If not, enjoy it anyways.
